A 70-year-old Nigerian man will spend the next three decades in prison after he was sentenced to serve 30 years jail term for defiling an 8-year-old girl.
Mohammed Sani Umar was sentenced on Friday, July 24, 2020 by a Magistrate Court in Minna, Niger state.
According to a source in Nigeria, he was arrested by the police for defiling the young girl twice and giving her N80 to keep quiet.
The incident reportedly occurred in Chanchaga area of the state.
Pleading guilty before the court, Umar who was arraigned on July 24, 2020, claimed that he loved her and that’s why he had carnal knowledge of her.
The presiding judge, Senior Magistrate Safuratu Abdulkareem, then convicted him to 30 years in line with Section 18, Subsection 2 of the Child Right Act (2010) of Niger State.
The assistant headmaster, Kofi Appiah, has been arrested for wrongly detainment of students.
A day ago, the headmaster of Ejisu Senior High Technical School locked two students up for alleged crime.
It was reported that the students stole a school stabilizer. Nevertheless, they were caught by a taxi driver when they tried to scale over the school’s wall.
The matter was brought before the headmaster, he then locked these students up in his office overnight.
One of the students attempted suicide by drinking soapy water. He was taken to the hospital for treatment.
Today, the headmaster has been arrested for wrongful detainment of students.
The police said no one, apart from the police, has right to detain a suspect.
He added that if someone is suspected of a crime, they should be sent to the police station.
The police have given a warning to the general public that, no individual should lock up suspects at their offices, home or any place.
An old woman believed to be in her late 90’s has been beaten to death after a soothsayer claimed she was a witch.
Details remain sketchy at this point but the gruesome lynching and murder is said to have occurred at Kafaba in the East Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region.
In a disturbing video that is fast going viral sighted by Ghanaweb.com on TV3 Ghana’s Facebook page, the old woman, who could be heard clearly refuting allegations that she is a witch, was pushed down by one of the women, and beaten mercilessly.
It is unclear what prompted the supposed soothsayer to accuse the old woman of witchcraft and her subsequent lynching but scenes in the video can only be described as barbaric. The disturbing video has younger women, slapping, whipping and hitting the old woman’s head with a heavy item, with the community members cheering them on.
The video appeared to have incensed social media users who have called on the police to fish them out and prosecute them.

Amess who has been the manager of Takoradi born musician Castro, has been with him for several years until the multiple award-winning versatile got missing while on holiday with his best friend and the general captain of the senior national team, Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan.
According to Kojo Preko Dankwah of Class Media who broke the news, DJ Amess, who was a physically challenged, died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital this morning after an undisclosed illness.
The popular artiste manager used to be a regular panelist on a lot of entertainment shows especially Anigye Mmre on Onua FM, an Accra based radio which is part of Media General.

Report reaching us suggest that a local resident pastor popularly known as Pastor Peter has sadly died by hanging himself this afternoon at Ofankor Hills at the Greater Accra region.
According to reports, he has a prayer camp and has been praying for the people in Ofankor for quite sometime now. Some residents who were close to scene said he was new to the area. He hadn’t stayed there for a long time. Pastor peter doesn’t have a church but however, he organises daily prayers on the park with many residents
According to many residents, he even offers to pray for the sick and conduct numeral deliverance services without taking money or offering. They testified that he is indeed a very good man of God.
He is a well known pastor because he is a taxi driver as well.
According to indigenes, he doesn’t have slot of money. He lives in someone else’s house in a single room. There are no reports yet as to whether he is married or have children.
He preaches and controls a prayer camp in the evenings on daily basis after he closes from his taxi business.
This afternoon, he was found dead at his residence. Describing the incident, he had around his neck a sponge with his bible beside him. It is alleged that he took his own life by banging himself with his sponge while standing on one of his plastic chairs he used to host his church members with.
The case is with the police. Further investigations are on going. The motive behind the suicide Is not known, neither is the cause of death actually known. In spite of the fact that he was witnessed on liking himself through hanging, the final autopsy report will indicate the official cause of death.
